Still Waters

Story Behind The Song

Still Waters is a tribute to my brother Larry, who took his own life. It has been many years since, but it never really leaves you. You are always left wondering. My main goal with this song, is not only to pay tribute to Larry but also to others that have taken their lives, to bring an awareness and bring to light the too often taboo subject of mental health, and suicide. We must talk about it, too many people suffer in silence and wear a mask to disguise their illness. At the same time, we must be aware, and pass along a message of hope. We can't always see all the signs but I hope we can become vigilant and work to build people up and inspire. Within that message of hope, what I have learned within my own depression and anxiety is to be very aware of your own thinking. The story we tell ourselves, and the negative self-talk make a huge difference. We can carry around a negative self-image and feel not good enough, but we only need to realign our thoughts and intentions, and know we are good enough. I have come to realize no matter our shortcomings, our failures, we are here for a purpose, and we are loved and wanted. Within our failings we must rise above and learn to "fail forward", learn from our mistake and move on. "FAIL FORWARD" If you fail, never give up, FAIL means FIRST ATTEMPT IN LEARNING" Many do wear masks to disguise their pain, and are left adrift at sea alone to their own devices. We must come together, to help unmask the stigma of mental illnesses.

Lyrics

STILL WATERS Lynn Gillitzer © 2015
CHORUS
Still waters run deep
In the well of your mind I looked in, tried to find
All that you left behind
I was blind, I couldn't see
What was right in front of me
Those still waters run deep
We're all on a journey, following life's path
We get lost in our illusions
As we carry on
Caught up in our own delusions
The ego drives us down, gotta bring it back around
Reconnect with the source
Realign out thoughts
And our intentions
PRECHORUS
Recognize the signs
Learn to read between the lines
Maybe we'd save a life.....oh those......
CHORUS
Still waters run deep
In the well of your mind I looked in, tried to find
All that you left behind
I was blind, I couldn't see
What was right in front of me
Those still waters run deep
Caterpillar on the vine, doesn't know he's divine
Thinks his life is through
All alone in the darkness
Of his cocoon
Suddenly he sees a light, and he has wings to fly
If he'd only knew
Like that caterpillar
That we are divine too
PRECHORUS
Recognize the signs
Learn to read between the lines
Maybe we'd save a life.......oh those....
OUTRO CHORUS
Still waters run deep
Still waters run deep
