Mothers and Daughters

Story Behind The Song

This is a tribute to my mother

Song Description

Mothers and daughters, this song is a tribute to my mother Mary Appleman-Hadley. A wonderful woman who in the eyes of her children could be a saint. She would wave her magical wand of love while taking care of each of us, the only way she knew best. Unconditional love at its finest for her children and grandchildren. It arose through her ever-seeming effortless endeavors of cooking, cleaning and making sure our immediate needs were met. All on a shoe string budget. I can only hope to harness her discipline in not only budgeting, but in making sure we were taken care of, had birthday and Christmas presents under the tree, not to mention her cooking and baking skills. She made the best homemade noodles around, not to mention, her apple pie. Our claims for sainthood come in with her ability to deal with her health problems with diabetes and the complications that came with it. She would still bake cookies, cakes and pies for us, all while not eating any herself. She was very diligent with sticking to her diet. All the while taking care of David, who had many challenges and special needs. She did so with such finesse that leaves us dumbfounded in her tracks, wondering how she managed to accomplish it all. One of my fondest memories is watching her roll out dough for cookies, pies, or noodles. She could also weave her own magic while embroidering and making quilts. On rare occasions she would take down the old tea pot from the shelf and make a pot of tea, and sit for only moment to talk before getting back to her loving motherly tasks. We miss you Mom!!

Mothers and Daughters Lynn Gillitzer © 2016
Childhood memories wrapped up in ribbons and bows
I see Mamma, there Making tea in that old tea pot
And we'd sit around the table and talk awhile
Not really saying much of anything
Like a mad hatter's tea party, nothing much to say
Just making it through the day
Killing time
CHORUS
Mothers and daughters, buttons and bows
They go together and heaven knows
How time flies.......right on by
If I could open a channel to heaven's door
I'd bring you back down, we'd have tea once more
And we'd sit around, yeah and talk awhile
Childhood memories like Alice through the looking glass
I see Mama there with that rolling pin, rollin out dough
For that old pie tin, and her sweet apple pie
Flour and sugar on her apron strings
Only mothers know the love she brings
And the ties that bind us together
CHORUS
Mothers and daughters, buttons and bows
They go together and heaven knows
How time flies.......right on by
If I could open a channel to heaven's door
I'd bring you back down, we'd have tea once more
And we'd sit around, yeah and talk awhile
BRIDGE
So Many words left unspoken, sweet echoes on the wind
So many memories left unbroken, like freeze frame pictures in our minds
CHORUS
