Lyrics
THE ELEPHANT'S LAMENT
The elephant said, it's not fair
That I have to be so bare
And this boring all over gray
It really can ruin my day
To think that I might have had stripes
It is one if my biggest gripes
The lion can shake his curly mane
I am bald, it's a real pain
Why could I not sport
A coiffure of some sort
And a coat of fine wool
Why must I look dull
There are animals I can name
Whose coats are in no way lame
The leopard has spots
The jackal has dots
The giraffe's coat is really neat
That's one no one else can beat
Why could I not stride through the grass
With my friend hippopotamus
My fur coat a brilliant gold
With stripes that are really bold
And his could be blue or green
Then we would really be seen
And dear grey rhinoceros Miss
Would think it was real bliss
If instead of her dull coat of gray
She could have a red one one day,
But it is us pachyderms' lot
That colorful we are just not.
