Short KDO

Sitar Shofar Chillout? Jewish Flamenco Dub House? Electronic Bossa-Niggun? The recipe for these musical anomalies: When Jazz pianist turned chassidic Rabbi Shalom Pasternak started studying the eoteric discipline, his musical fire found a new, sacred form: Niggunim. Composed by Tzaddikim (holy men), these melodies have the power to bring the light of the infinite directly into our hearts. Mix these melodies with the stylings of Daniel Fries, whose lifelong thirst for new musical direction led him through projects of diverse styles including Flamenco, Jazz, Funk, Indian, Afgan, Arabic, Persian, and African, performances in America, Europe, India and China, and co-authorship of several Italian dance and pop hits. Shalom's heartfelt, sacred vocal melodies, and Daniel's worldly, cutting edge production have combined to produce "the hottest record in the Jewish music world today."

Kabbalah Dream Orchestra Bio

Sitar Shofar Chillout? Yiddish R&B? Jewish Flamenco Dub House? Electronic Bossa-Niggun? What was the recipe for these musical anomalies: It was a passion for Chassidut which temporarily drew Rabbi Shalom Pasternak away from his musical path of Jazz piano. Five years of ?the esoteric discipline? later, Shalom?s musical fire found a new, sacred form: Niggunim. Composed by holy Tzaddikim (righteous men), these melodies have the power to bring the light of the infinite directly into our hearts. The task of giving arcane melodies a fresh flavor seems daunting, but in Tzfat, the mystical city of Kabbalah, things have a way of revealing themselves. Enter Daniel Fries whose thirst for new musical direction led him through projects of diverse styles including Flamenco, Jazz, Funk, Indian, Afgan, Arabic, Persian, and African, and performances in America, Europe, India and China. His recent stint in Italy produced collaborations with the Italian dance label ?Motivo,? and several co-authored songs with the Italian pop artist ?L?aura? including the hits ?Radio Star? and ?Irraggiungible,? which she sings at San Remo this year. From ethnic to pop to dance Daniel was ready to take on a project which would combine all his experience and talent, and he found himself in the vortex of Tzfat, surrounded by musicians, at the house of a rabbi bent on bringing Moshiach through music?

Basquerole Blurb

Basquerole is world music's answer to Kruder and Dorfmeister. Their original lush, exotic melodies and harmonies evocative of India, Afghanistan, Egypt, Turkey, India, Spain, and Morocco play off of euphoric electronic grooves and ambient textures. This is music to trance, dance, and to celebrate the universal sound of the spheres.

Funkiri Bio

Start with the Chicago Blues , Bahia Samba stylings of Jason Taylor on Set. Drop in the multi-talented Ben Scarola switch-hitting Cuban Percussion and slinky groove bass. Add renowned Bay Area flamenco guitarist Dan Fries stepping back to his roots of funk bass and blues guitar. Bring in J.P. Buongiorno whose first fifteen years as a nomad surviving on cheese and wine add just the right gypsy guitar flair. Top it off with JP and Jason's smooth, soulful vocal harmonies , and Funkiri will keep you dancing all night .

Think James Brown playing samba with Muddy Waters. Think Miles Davis meets Jorge Ben meets Hippopotamus . Whatever you think, Funkiri 's unique grooves will blend your monkey into a soul-tronic , funkaliscious , lip-smacking stupor .

Daniel Fries Flamenco Bio

Daniel Fries is one of the premier flamenco guitarists in the San Francisco Bay Area, both as an accompanist for flamenco song and dance, and as a soloist. He has performed with such world class flamenco artists as La Tania, Andrés Marín, Cristo Cortés, and Manuel Gutierrez, as well as with many local artists and companies, such as Caminos Flamencos, Carola Zertuche, Arte y Compás, and Carolina Lugo's Brisas de España, for which he has been musical director. While in Italy, he performed with two of the country's top dancers, Juana Cala, and Maria Jose Soto Leon in venues from Venice to Milan to Sicily. While his playing style remains grounded in the roots of the traditional Spanish flamenco, he also explores new directions in musical composition as well as blending of elements from the various musical traditions around which he grew up in San Francisco; Indian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, and African. He has performed in venues ranging from San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, to venues in China and in India. He also directed the music for "Zambra Bailar," a company mixing flamenco with Middle Eastern music and belly dance. In 2002, he composed and directed the music for La Tania's ongoing project, "The Passage of The Muse." Mr. Fries has studied in Spain with several flamenco guitar masters, including Manolo Sanlucar, Paco Peña, and Jose Luis Rodriguez. He has also studied Indian Classical music under Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, and Ghanain drumming with C.K. Ladezkpo, and has B.A. in Music from U.C. Berkeley.
