Rainy Day Blues

Story Behind The Song

An exceptionally wet and rainy spring this year inspired me to write this song.

Song Description

This song reflects the gloom and frustration of an especially wet spring and seemingly unending rainy days. Farmers can't get into their fields and I can't even get my ever-growing grass cut. So I decided that the way to vent my frustration was to write a song about it.

Lyrics

Rainy Day Blues

Verse 1
I woke up this morning, gray skies again.
I woke up this morning, gray skies again.
Then I hear it startin', the sound of raindrops begin.

Verse 2
I tune into the forecast, just to see what they say.
I tune into the forecast, just to see what they say.
I don't get my hopes up, they're usually wrong anyway.

Chorus
The rain is a-fallin', I don't know what to do.
The rain keeps on fallin', I don't know what to do.
My mind's in a fog now, I've got the rainy day blues.

Verse 3
It rained most of April, now we're well into May.
It rained most of April, now we're well into May.
If we don't get a dry spell, we might just all float away.

Verse 4
My lawn's like a swamp now, when will I ever cut my grass?
My lawn's like a swamp now, when will I ever cut my grass?
It's looking like a wheat field, so tall, it's clear up to my....knees.

Repeat Chorus
The rain is a-fallin', I don't know what to do.
The rain keeps on fallin', I don't know what to do.
My mind's in a fog now, I've got the rainy day blues.

Instrumental Break

Verse 5
The dark clouds are coming, and they're starting to spin.
The dark clouds are coming, and they're starting to spin.
The way things are looking, I'll soon be gone with the wind.

Verse 6
The creek is a-risin', it's almost up to the door.
The creek is a-risin', it's almost up to the door.
Gonna' be in big trouble if it comes up anymore.

Repeat Chorus
The rain is a-fallin', I don't know what to do.
The rain keeps on fallin', I don't know what to do.
My mind's in a fog now, I've got the rainy day blues.
