Story Behind The Song
I was going through a bout with insomnia, so I'm sure that influenced this song to some degree. Also, I have a friend who drove 'cross country for awhile and he has told me many a story.

Lyrics
Discount Rate by Scott Aycock
It's late out on the road tonight
Center-line blurs in my headlights
Time to check into a cheap motel
and call it a night.
Motel six or motel eight
hell I can't keep 'em straight
I'm just looking for a discount rate
a good night's sleep, that'd be great.
CHORUS: I took this rig before the dawn,
been driving hard ever since
Saw the sun come up, saw the sun go down.
Bypassed a lot of small towns,
I'd trade my life for one good nights sleep, trade my life for one good nights sleep.
My days and nights are all messed up,
since before I took up driving trucks
Catch a nap once in awhile,
fall asleep counting the miles.
In my room it smells of bleach and cigarettes.
Dreams gone bad and dreams unmet
I've had my share of regrets,
but I've not given up hope yet.
CHORUS-
BRIDGE: Sleep does not come easy to those who seek.
Nor to those who no longer dream
but there's always tomorrow and the mystery it brings,
and nothing is what it seems, no nothing is what it seems.
BREAK-
It's late out on the road tonight
Center-line blurs in my headlights
Time to check into a cheap motel and call it
a night.
