Story Behind The Song
Another one of those times when I was driving (in the rain) and just got this lonely feeling, so this song came out of it.

Lyrics
Drivin' from Tulsa to Memphis in a pouring rain.
All the exits on Higway 40, they just look the same.
I left nothing back there, but a whole heap of pain.
And now I'm driving east in the pouring rain.
I had blacktop on my brain and gasoline in my veins
It seemed everything between us had changed
Now I'm on the road with nothing left
but a suitcase and a cryin' shame.
Chorus:
Cryin' Shame, cryin' shame
Is all that remains
Cryin' shame, cryin' shame
and pouring rain.
I shed this life like a snake sheds skin, Knew she wouldn't see me again.
I think my leavin' was probably a sin,
But I never was the best of men, never knew how to be a friend,
so I'm back on this Highway again.
Chorus:
Now the roads before me like an endless stretch of grey.
And I'm driving east in the pouring rain.
all the exits on Higway 40, just look the same
I got nothin' left, but a cryin' shame.
