Story Behind The Song
This song uses the concept of "your hometown" as a metaphor for any place that was meant to represent "home," but never felt like it, because of bullying and abuse. It is both personal, and a message to anyone else who has ever struggled with balancing feelings of anger towards their bullies and abusers versus the pressure to forgive, and has carried the weight of their early childhood and teenage pain with them into adulthood. The ultimate message is that those who hurt you will never truly learn from their errors, and the best thing we can do is leave them behind.

Lyrics
VERSE 1
This town is rife with memories
Full of voices, plagued with nightmares, damned with misery
This town doesn't need your charity
Even if they say that to forgive will set you free
Don't let the words they say turn your head around
It's time you looked to higher ground
CHORUS
Maybe they've got you running
Maybe they'll shoot you down
Maybe you'll see your bridges falling to the ground
Maybe you won't remember
You'd just as soon forget
The pain you brought from your hometown
As you watch it burn
Maybe you'll watch it burn
Maybe you'll watch it burn
VERSE 2
You watch the flames lick at their feet
Remember how they blamed you as they kicked you in the streets
You watch them learn to feel regret
Remember that it took this fire to make them pay their debts
Their cries are wasted as they fall to their knees
You won't be there to answer their pleas
CHORUS
Maybe they've got you running
Maybe they'll shoot you down
Maybe you'll see your bridges falling to the ground
Maybe you won't remember
You'd just as soon forget
The pain you brought from your hometown
As you watch it burn
Maybe you'll watch it burn
Maybe you'll watch it burn

Maybe you'll watch it burn
Maybe you'll watch it burn
