Lyrics

At Day's End

I asked my Daddy
for some Fatherly Advice
Should I fight that rowdy boy at school
or
Should I try and make nice.

He said son... sit down now Listen here.

Is there anybody happier because
you passed his way ?
Will any Man remember
that you spoke to him today?
When The day is almost over,
and its toiling time is through;
will someone say a kindly word of you?

I said Dad that boy keeps pushing me...
How do I make a fist.
I ask you how to fight
and you recite this stupid list...

He said son... sit down one more time
Can you say tonight, in parting
with the day that's slipping fast,
That you helped a single brother
of the many that you passed?
Is a single heart rejoicing
over what you did or said?
Does the man whose hopes were fading,
now with courage look Ahead...

I said Mom and Dad you're hopeless
Cause she gave the same advice
With all this turn the cheek stuff
Well I'll never learn to fight....

He said son... I guess we'll do this one more time

Did you waste the day, or lose it
Was it well or sorely spent?
Did you leave a trail of kindness,
or a scar of discontent?
As you close your eyes in slumber,
do you think God will say,
"You have earned one more tomorrow
by the work you did today?"

~John Hall
 Day's End
I said doggone it Daddy
You done Played a trick on me.....
I was mad as heck 'bout somethin'
Can't remember what it could be

He said Son Take your time... You're doin fine.

He said...
You don't have to fight a man
Cause you got your dander up
Just take couple deep breaths
and he'll ususally shut up...
I don't want you startin' fights
But you may have to end some...
So I'll show you what you've been waitin for all day....

Well
Then he went and dazzled me
Mysteries of men...
Things I never thought he knew
About how to fight and win...
I thought he was Mr. "Sit down and Talk"

You don't have to fight a man
Cause you got your dander up
Just take couple deep breaths
and he'll ususally shut up...
I don't want you startin' fights
But you may have to end some...
So I'll show you what you've been waitin for all day....
