Pouring In My Heart

Story Behind The Song

Lyrically, this is a cowrite. I wrote the song with a songwriter friend of mine named Daniel Fagan. I recorded the song at Josh Bright Productions right here in my little town of Boaz, AL. Josh is somewhat of a multi-instrumentalist/producer extraordinaire. Once in the studio, we decided to up the tempo and beef up the arrangements a bit from the song's original form. I think it turned out well!

Song Description

Alone is a heckuva state to find yourself in, when there are 8 billion people on the planet. I myself have been there, and I can tell you that there's a sound associated with it. In my experience, it manifested as a constant drip, which can evolve into an all-out pour, if left unchecked. But this sound is more a sound that you feel rather than necessarily hear. When faced with a deluge, you have to just get up and go sometimes. Just create a purpose, latch onto it, and ride the waves until the flood subsides. I've been there and done that. And what do you know! I've even written songs about it.

Lyrics

Stayed home from work today
It's gonna come a flood they say
But looks like everything's OK
Yeah, I've seen worse than this

Shoulda gone on in anyway
I hate being here alone, I just made
My bed where you and I once laid
With all those pretty plans I missed

Cause it's barely raining outside
But in this house, I feel a storm coming
Water running
That river's on the rise
It's barely raining outside
But it's about to hit real hard
Cause it's pouring in my heart

God knows we used to laugh a lot
Like we could read other's thoughts
Just talk all night 'til we'd get lost
And fall asleep at dawn

Save me from this mess I've made
Come back home before the levee breaks
Not sure how much these walls can take
Without you here, I'm afraid it won't be long

Cause it's barely raining outside
But in this house, I feel a storm coming
Water running
That river's on the rise
It's barely raining outside
But it's about to hit real hard
Cause it's pouring in my heart

It's barely raining outside
But in this house, I feel a storm coming
Water running
That river's on the rise
It's barely raining outside
But it's about to hit real hard

It's barely raining outside
But in this house, I feel a storm coming
Water running
That river's on the rise
It's barely raining outside
But it's about to hit real hard
Cause it's pouring in my heart
