Story Behind The Song
It was the night of my great-grandmother's funeral, and it was indeed 3am. I knew I wasn't going to sleep so I decided I'd write a song. I'd recently seen an interview with Paul McCartney where he said he'd been inspired to write a song using only two fingers, just like the guitar player in Picasso's painting, so I thought I'd write my own two-chord masterpiece. I'd had a brief affair with a distinguished older guy who was sincerely interested in pursuing a long-distance relationship with me, but I was a jerk and ran him off. This song was an extention of me beating myself up over that for years.
Song Description
You can't sleep, so you decide to write something, but you can't think straight, because you can't stop thinking about how you screwed up what could've been a great love, so you have writer's block.

Lyrics
Well it's 3 o'clock
And I have writer's block
I can't think of what to say
To go with what I want to play
Should I say that I loved you?
Or is that even true?
I still have this broken heart
And that is always a good place to start
Because I feel and I know
That it was the real thing
Oh
Well I'm not thinking straight
So maybe you can't relate
The words just won't come
But maybe the Lord will send me some
Well my old love is gone
Because I treated him so wrong
You know it's funny to hear me say
I shouldn't have behaved in such a way
Because I feel and I know
That it was the real thing
Oh
Because I feel and I know
That it was the real thing
Oh
