Story Behind The Song
I was out of town for a night with my parents, and my dad and his friend smoked cigars in the room. I tried to sleep on the floor but couldn't because of the smell and smog. So I went downstairs to the hotel's breakfast nook, made myself some tea, and began to write this song. I wondered what it would be like to lay awake at night, wondering where your old love is, so I explored that.
Song Description
You can't sleep because he's are still on your mind. It's raining outside, and you wonder where he is but just hope he's okay. You think about fond memories and maybe how to get him back, but it's been a long time. Sleep would be good but in the morning you'll just have to pretend everything's okay and you dreamed it all.

Lyrics
I lie awake and wonder
Where you might be
Who you might be with
If you're thinking about me
I hold my pillow close
And pray you're safe and warm
Turn over to the window
And listen to the storm
Nights like this together
We'd fill the air with words
And begin to notice sunlight
And hear the songs of birds
It's been so long since we spoke
I wonder if you'd sound the same
But it all runs like water
Down my window pane
Even if I drifted off
Sleep wouldn't be serene
So I stare into the darkness
And wonder what it all could mean
I'll be fine come morning
In my daily routine
I'll pretend we never happened
And you were but a dream
Here alone in the dark
I can't escape my thoughts
Reliving memories
I claimed long ago forgot
I could try to win you back
But wouldn't know where to start
I don't know where you are
But I feel you in my heart
Even if I drifted off
Sleep wouldn't be serene
So I stare into the darkness
And wonder what it all could mean
I'll be fine come morning
In my daily routine
I'll pretend we never happened
And you were but a dream
