Story Behind The Song
I was playing a show and from the stage saw this kid I had a crush on in the audience. The way the light hit his face made him shine even more to me, yet deepened my humiliation at liking him so much! After my set, I sat in the back of the club and wrote the lyrics, which fit perfectly with a piano part I'd written spontaneously at 3am a week or two later.
Song Description
The protagonist sees her crush leave the room. She laments, as he seems cold and it's confusing for her. It's the kind of obsession you can't get away from, reminiscent of middle school. While the lyrics may seem invariably depressing, it is juxtaposed with an upbeat, staccato piano accompaniment, which brings out the silliness of teen angst. The harmonica solo also reflects the flustered pathos of the song.

Lyrics
There goes my heart
Just walked out the door
Only gave me a wave
But he left me wantin' so much more
There goes my heart
With his face stoic and drawn
He knows what he's doing
He knows what was going on
Oh the light on his face
I'm such a disgrace!
Oh the light on his face...
Oh what am I to do now?
I'd forget him but I don't know how
But it doesn't seem up to me!
So I'll just have to wait and see,
I'll see.
There goes my heart
With his casual good-bye
Gave me no reasons
No where, no why, no nothing,
Just good-bye.
(harmonica solo)
Oh what am I to do now?
I'd forget him but I don't know how
But it doesn't seem up to me!
So I'll just have to wait and see,
I'll see.
Where goes my heart?
oh, I wish he would come back to me
So I'll just hold my breath
Until it all turns black to me!
It's turning black to me...
Oh the light on his face
I'm such a disgrace!
Oh the light on his face
There goes my heart.
