Story Behind The Song

I adored this boy Matthew and wanted to be with him. He had a great heart, but he had a drinking problem as well. So I decided to accept my feelings for him but not act on them to avoid an unhealthy relationship. We stayed friends. Unfortunately, he died at age 27 in July of 2011, so I never got to tell him he was the inspiration for the song. He heard it at a show I played, but I didn't say it was about him. I did get to sing it to him on his death bed (he was in a coma after having a stroke), but I wish he'd heard this recorded version.
