Story Behind The Song
In ancient Egyptian history Queen Nefertiti was the chief wife of King Amenophis IV, also known as Akhenaten, who lived from 1353-1335 B.C. in the 18th dynasty. She bore six daughters but no sons for the king. King Akhenaten changed the religious status quo of believing in many Gods to believing in one God, the Sun God, and Nefertiti also promoted this idea. This was considered an unpopular move by the priests and the people of Egypt. When King Akhenaten died Queen Nefertiti was ?left holding the basket? as they say. Her death may have had foul play involved. And when she died, the names of this king and queen were then stricken from stone wherever recorded and their monuments were ordered destroyed. Poor Nefertiti.
