Story Behind The Song
Life, death, then life after death. Such were the beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. A ceremony to help the life force leave the body is performed. The falcon-headed god Horus leads the soul through doorways of fire and cobras into the hall of judgment. The jackal-headed god Anubis weighs the deceased?s heart against the feather of maat, or ?things as they should be? while Osiris, king of the underworld, and other gods watch as judges. If the heart balances the winged soul unites with the life force to form a spirit, which emerges in the bright realm ruled by crowned Osiris. The utopian life portrayed on the walls of the Pharaoh?s tomb is now his eternity.
