Story Behind The Song
ANOTHER OF MY SELF-MOTIVATING WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT.
Song Description
Began with a slick rock riff that I'd been practicing (a la Alex Lifeson) and an attempt at Neil Peart's lost-man-in-a-lost-world style of existential lyric. It was supposed to be a full-bore RUSH song but while doing a series of reggae-tinged tracks I realized that slowed down, this might work well in that genre.

Lyrics
I KNOW YOU'RE WONDERING WHY YOU EXIST
DAY AFTER DAY WHAT KIND OF LIFE IS THIS
YOU GOT POETS AND PRIESTS AND POLITICIANS
TRYING TO EXPLAIN BUT THEY'RE WRONG
YOU GOT A MILLION QUESTIONS BURNING DEEP DOWN INSIDE
FOR ALL YOUR RUNNING YOU GOT NOWHERE TO HIDE
YOU GOT NOWHERE TO GO AND NO ONE TO TURN TO
YOU'RE ALONE - ALONE
SON WHY DON'T YOU LOOK AROUND
YOU'RE ONE OF THE FACES IN A CROWD
YOU PAY YOUR DUES AND EVERY VICTORY EARNS A BRUISE
BUT THAT'S A SLICE OF LIFE
AND I KNOW YES I KNOW
AND I KNOW THERE'S A REASON WHY WE TOPPLE EACH OTHER
TO RISE ABOVE THESE MORTAL PAINS
AND I KNOW...AND I KNOW
AND I KNOW THERE'S A REASON WHY THE FINEST OF PLANS
GO AWRY
BUT LIFE, LIFE IS A JOURNEY
NOT A DESTINATION CARVED IN STONE
THE BOY WOULD LEARN TOO SLOW
SON WHY DON'T YOU LOOK AROUND
YOU'RE ONE OF THE FACES IN A CROWD
YOU PAY YOUR DUES AND EVERY VICTORY EARNS A BRUISE
BUT THAT'S A SLICE OF LIFE
SON YOU GOTTA TAKE A LOOK AROUND
YOU'RE ONE OF THE FACES IN A CROWD
AND IF YOU FALTER AND YOU FALL JUST REMEMBER THAT IT'S ALL
JUST A PART OF LIFE IT'S JUST A SLICE
