Story Behind The Song
Several years ago my writing partner Dave Levene was approached by the military to write a tribute song for our armed forces. Dave called me with a daunting list of themes they wanted covered in a 4 minute song; sacrifice, love of country, the fact that women now serve, the new multi racial military, and it should talk about freedom! Well that's a lot to put in a song and not sound like a jumbled mess. And I had a 3 week deadline!
I thought about the melody for a couple of weeks going over themes in my head when the chorus idea hit me of using the Jesus sacrifice as a metaphor for each soldier's sacrifice. Once I had that - which I thought was a very strong image - I knew I had something. I finished the rest of the lyric (at work) in about 3 hours. Presented it to Dave and he was ecstatic. Unfortunately we could never get the production style right.
Not until 2023 when I had the idea to do a modern country makeover with a confident female country vocal. Here it is I hope you like it.

Lyrics
A million fearless men are marching
Through the smoke those men are falling down
Its insanity
A young girl waves the flag of freedom
In her hands the future seems secure
She's why they're dying
That's what they're fighting for
That's what they're dying for
One man back in time turned water into wine
Turned blood into freedom
One soldier at a time is called up to the line
To shed his blood for freedom
Men and women proudly serving
Black and white and brown together now
Stand in unity
From factory towns and farms
Across this glorious land of ours they all belong
They're our families
It's us they're fighting for
Its us they're dying for
One man back in time turned water into wine
Turned blood into freedom
One soldier at a time is called up to the line
To shed his blood for freedom
BR: Appreciation from the nation
Stands a hero broken at a crossroads
Did we thank him?
One man takes a stand and the will of all is strong
One man back in time turned water into wine
Turned blood into freedom
One soldier at a time is called up to the line
To shed his blood for freedom
One man back in time turned water into wine
Turned blood into freedom
One soldier at a time is called up to the line
To shed his blood for freedom
