UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY

Story Behind The Song

Started as a folky pop track with a nice melody. I wanted to write something youthful but with a complex and nuanced look at a troubled relationship. After scrapping several ideas I came upon the notion of two lovers in uncharted emotional territory resembling uncharted geographical territory. The quick melodic tempo allowed for a lot of exposition and added a frantic nature to the verses. All in all a unique idea. The song really took shape however when Mark Dannells lent his considerable producing skills to create a dynamic, pulsating recording.

Lyrics

You'd never let the day define you
Shadows always seem to find you
Giving in to your worst fears

I looked around and you were lost in
Edgar Allen Poe or Austen
Crying your river of tears

Babe we got to change or baby we'll part
Maybe we gave all at the start
In an undiscovered country is where we are
And maybe love lives on a bridge too far - on a bridge too far

Last night back at your apartment
You tore me down to a tattered fragment
Said we should only be friends

Said - hit the road man I hit the pavement
Made you my sole assignment
Are we just delaying the end?

Cause its fine tonight It's just a hidden destination a hidden destination
We'll ride this tide and navigate an ocean of fear - let's make it so

Change or baby we'll part
Maybe we gave all at the start
In an undiscovered country is where we are
And maybe love lives on a bridge too far
In an undiscovered country is where we are
And maybe love lives on a bridge too far

I know that you are an illusion or a dream
Something glimpsed but never seen
And like a shadow in a dream if I blink you might be gone
And as lost as you are you've got the power to believe
In redemption and reprieve
What we believe we can achieve 'cause there's love to be won
And we're losing

You'd never let the day day day

You'd never let the day define you
Shadows always seem to find you
Everything I wanted was pure
So I tried to analyze you
Find the hurt inside you
Kidding myself I was the cure

Change or baby we'll part
Maybe we gave all at the start
In an undiscovered country is where we are
And maybe love lives on a bridge too far - on a bridge too far

Maybe we can change or maybe we'll part
Maybe we gave all at the start
In an undiscovered country is where we are
And maybe love lives on a bridge too far

Maybe we can change

Undiscovered Country is a well written song that will hopefully inspire people to travel and find love and adventure!

This is a GREAT recording and vocal performance! Well done!
