Story Behind The Song
This song found its original berth in Lorenzo's constantly evolving songbook, and was written during his 'solo' period. Heavily focused on ballads and imagery at the time - it was one of the few songs offered from this collection which properly reflected the direction and attitude Concentual wanted to take. Though the song wasn't written about or for anyone in particular, it was a topic they felt others would connect with as well, and had a great energy in a live setting.
Song Description
"Rise" came from the angle of unrequited love, and a knowledge that the character had (and wanted) to be a better version of himself...wanting to 'rise' to the situation and show his worth to the woman he loved.
Originally written in a minor key, and intended to be quasi-acoustic, the song took new shape when the band decided to make it a more 'positive experience' by making the chords major, and give the song more 'space', a la U2 and Coldplay.

Lyrics
smile, with no reason for laughter - so i can get a taste of life the hereafter - warm as the sun - shining like it does - oh, but my heart seems to read you -between the lines inside your eyes as i see through - please let me in to the place where your hopes reside - cuz in your eyes wanna rise - hold onto me for the moment - never let me go, let's never drop down below it - here in this place, within life i have come alive - oh, but my heart seems to read you - between the lines inside your eyes as i see through - please let me in to the place where your hopes reside - cuz in your eyes i wanna rise - cuz in your eyes i wanna rise - rise above and be a better man for you - rise above - these's nothing left to do but rise -
