Song Description
This song is a tribute to my parents. I wrote the lyrics the night before my father died, after we had said our final words to each other. The song was meant to celebrate their lives together, the chapters already played out, and the chapters yet to come.

Lyrics
1st Verse
I remember risin' early to go fishin' with my dad
And playin' catch and flyin' kites when I was just a lad
My brothers and my sisters and I knew a man so strong
The greatest thing he did for us was marryin' our mom
2nd Verse
He met her playin' in the band when they were in high school
A courtship interrupted by the hell of World War Two
He came home to his sweetheart, and they tied a knot so strong
It never would unravel, for together they belonged
1st Chorus
I think about the life they gave me and the life I've made
The path they chose to travel, and the times that I have strayed
They showed which road to follow, and I know what I must do
The final words he said to me were, "Son, I'm proud of you.{"
bridge
No treasure is so precious, and there's no prize can be won
That's equal to a father's love, and time spent with his son
His time and love he freely gave with every move he made
I know that he's been welcomed home, and all his dues are paid
2nd Chorus
And they will be together once again as time goes by
The knot they tied so long ago can never be untied
They showed which road to follow, and I know what I must do
So when we meet the next time, he'll say, "Son I'm proud of you."
When we meet the next time he'll say, "Son, I'm proud of you."
