Story Behind The Song
We started writing this song during my first writing vist to Nashville, when I felt like I'd 'come home' but was all too aware that too soon I'd be having to head 4,000 miles across the ocean back to the UK and we'd have to continue the writing partnership at long distance. That set up the premise for the song--of a long-distance romance that both people want desperately to change so that they can be together, as they feel like in that relationship they're finally home.
Song Description
A singer is performing in a club in Nashville while on tour and makes eye contact with someone in the audience; there's a spark between them and the performance is then all directed towards this person. They chat in the break and end up spending the night together, and the singer, although living across the ocean, feels like this is now their real home, the place they want to be. What they feel for each other is so strong that they know that one day their situation will change and they'll be together for ever.

Lyrics
Finally Home
I was singing out in Nashville,
Saw you sitting all alone,
I knew I had to meet you
Before my chance was gone.
Your eyes looked right into me,
I could tell you felt it too,
So I played with all my heart--
Every song I sang for you:
Home, finally home,
We both know it,
Home, you feel like home,
A lifelong romance;
I'm coming home to stay.
That one night we spent together--
Changed our lives and our hearts;
Now an ocean lies between us,
So close, and yet so far.
When we dream we share a vision
Of a place we're not apart;
Two souls brought together,
No longer two half hearts.
Home, finally home,
We both know it,
Home, you feel like home,
A lifelong romance;
I'm coming home to stay.
(Bridge)
One day soon it's gonna happen,
No more miles, no more sleepless hours:
When I'll be home, finally home,
We both know it,
Home, you feel like home,
A lifelong romance,
I'm coming home to stay,
To stay.
