Raised on the Radio
Theodore QettSevOn's earliest cognitive memories are musical. Born in Superior, WI USA to a USAF father and mother who was a Bell operator in Madison, WI, Theodore remembers songs her mother sang often and songs heard on the radio. As a boy growing up in a Wisconsin border town east of Saint Paul, Minnesota, he would run around the house singing songs from the radio and songs heard from his father's record player when no music was playing. At age 10, Theodore was given his first recording/playback device and he began to collect music. Making his own mixtapes of various artists complete with self added artwork to carefully cut and folded cassette case & tape labels, Theodore eventually amassed a collection of over 500 cassettes, albums and cd's by his early 20's. His start as a musician was postponed by his ability athletically. As a football, basketball and baseball player, he spent years chasing a pro sports dream that ended with him only achieving semi-pro status in football and baseball. Throughout his 10+ year sports career, music was the driving source of inspiration on and off the field. Nearly becoming a Minnesota Viking in 2003 and finishing his last season of semi-pro football in 2004, Theodore hung up his cleats for a pair of drumsticks and never looked back. Theodore began drumming in college and has been playing in bands since 1997. His one actual rock star friend, Jeff Johnson, stage manager of the The Knack for the last 15 years they were together, rented Theodore some studio space and StarfireStudioLab was born. Jeff also helped him learn live sound and analog studio gear. During his 6 year friendship with Johnson, Theodore was drum tech for Knack drummer Pat Torpey (formerly with Mr. Big), chauffeur for front man Doug Fieger and also took Jeff's good friend Tommy Tutone wherever he had to go when Tommy flew in to Minneapolis. When Theodore had his studio, he began to gather gear and skills. Completely self taught or learning from others, Teddy as his friends call him, would spend countless hours recording or rehearsing and began creating diverse electronic music tracks on a regular basis by 2009 and all the while, playing drums in various music groups. By 2014, Theodore was actively drumming in 4 different bands while mixing his own electronic music and running a successful, though difficult, delivery business which he still runs to this day. During all that time, Theodore successfully co-raised his two daughters and has worked exceptionally hard at everything he has ever done. Now, Theodore is focused on becoming successful and self-sufficient as an artist and musician. Not a young man but still youthful in appearance and exuberance with a constant push to become better at everything needed to become truly successful. After 29 years of professional driving to pay the bills, Theodore's focus has shifted to a musically rich and dynamic "retirement" with abject happiness his primary motivation. Always learning, always growing. Better late than never...
