Growing up in Madison, Wisconsin, One8 had his first experience with music when he was a child; his mother and grandmother would listen to music while working in the kitchen. When he first heard Chaka Kahn's "Ain't Nobody," it inspired a passion that grew to incorporate every facet of music. As he grew up and moved to California and, eventually, Las Vegas, his tastes grew to include Eric B., Ice Cube, Ice T, and NWA.
In high school, One8 met artists Braindead and Boogieman. They took him to his first studio recording session where he proved to be a natural at singing and rapping. After getting into some legal trouble, he met attorney David Lee Phillips, who also happened to own a record label. Mr. Phillips, impressed by One8's talents, recruited him to be his label's president. One8 spent the next several years traveling between Madison and Las Vegas, working with artists such as T-trell and Gunslanga, his own younger brother.
