Hi everyone! In case anyone is looking for CD cover/insert artwork I am a graphic designer who LOVES to do this kind of specialized design work. See my FB KS Design page to see some examples of my work: https://www.facebook.com/pages/KS-D esign/304733366233876
Hi Kyle, Thanks so much for your thoughtful review of "Good and Faithful." Good point about the monotony...banjo would've been a good idea had a I known one! Best to you!
Not known a banjo but a banjo player. Banjos are generally fairly introverted, I think. :)
Funny - I enjoyed the song. Keep up the inspirational work!
Not funny that I loved the song, but your comment was funny.
I totally picked up what you were layin' down. :)
Hi Kahtyn, many tahnks for the constructive review of my song "Make me feel". Yes, I'm italian and my English pronunciation is surely not so good. But I like sing in English, it's more fascinating for me. Osea
No problem. Good for you for taking on the English challenge! Keep up the good work.
Can someone tell me how a song gets on a Top 10 list??
Kathryn...Supposedly, it's a combination of factors: # plays, # playlists the song is on, star rating (1 to 4) from listeners (when you listen to someone's song, you can rate it from 1-4 stars), rating from other broadjam members when your song is reviewed. They use an algorithm to determine the overall rating (although I'm not aware if anyone knows the specifics of the algorithm). Anthony
Hi Kathryn - Elaborating a little on what The Spermatochords said; I asked Roy about this a month or so ago. Here's what he said (I cut out the non-relevant parts) Hope Roy doesn't mind my cut and paste: "Top 10s are generated by a series of events on Broadjam. Peer reviews, ratings, Showdown, playlists, song plays and a few other stats combine to create the top 10s. Likes on Facebook or other popularity events do not contribute. Only artistic recognition of some sort contributes to the Top 10s. Within each category, we look at the activity for a certain period of time, maybe 30 days in one category and 90 days in another. These variables and dates are altered periodically to ensure that quality and quantity is at an acceptable level."
Thanks so much Anthony and Robert! It kind of puzzles me because I don't really have that many plays or songs on playlists to make it seem like the song(s) are doing that well. Oh well...I am not complaining! Best to you both.
Hi Kathryn, exactly what I was wondering, I'm pretty new to this site (6 months) and I just made the Folk top-ten. Like you, I'm not complaining, but just wondering. Cheers, Rob
Hello! Thanks so much for your very nice review of Better Place. I like the drums a lot too...they added so much to the feel of the song. Being from Australia, you may be interested to know that this song is about the death of Crowded House drummer Paul Hester. I was a big fan of his. Best to you!
Yes, Paul unfortunately suicided in a park not far from my place. He used to also have a programme on TV about men's sheds. He would visit celebrity's homes, especially their backyard sheds, and interview them. I saw him once in a local pub as a fill in drummer for a band.
Thanks for your thoughtful review of "Never Seen Ohio." You are completely right about the mix...this was the first mix job for my producer and I wasn't aware of how buried my vocal did sound. I'd love if you listened to some of the other tunes...mix is much better. Again, appreciate your nice words and helpful ones. Best to you!
You're welcome, Kathryn. I enjoyed the song...very catchy. The lyrics were telling a story, but it was frustrating not to be able to figure it out. Have you considered having it re-mixed? If you have the master, it wouldn't be too difficult. Regarding your other songs, you are correct...the mix is much better. I especially like "Brilliant Beginner" and "Better Place". As someone who strives to create "melodic rock/pop/folk with an edge", I've always liked Neil Finn. Good luck to you as well. I'll be sending a friend/connection request. Anthony
Hi Dave, Just heard "Hero Time" in the submissions for the "Forgiveness-themed songs" opportunity. Beautiful work. Love the lyrics. Very moving and powerful. Best to you. I am a singer/songwriter too and would love to hear what you think of my work. Cheers!
Gee Kathryn, gotta really thank you for your review of "Down on The Ground"...as for the 'Neil Young' sounding vocals, well, I'm a raven, not a songbird so us character voice peeps are either really liked or not liked at all...glad you liked mine :D. Again, thanks.
Thanks for your review of "Fallen Idols." I appreciate your comments. It would've been nice to have the funds for more professional recording...maybe next time. :) Best to you!
Hi, thanks for the great review of 'Spirits' the song is fron my album Eagle and is part of a story, hopefuly, it worked out of context. thanks again and good luck. John
Hello Kathryn, I appreciate your comments regarding my song "Tying Up Loose Ends". Lyrics have always been important to me, so I'm glad you picked up on that. That song, as well as all the other "Folk" songs on my list, was recorded solo, live (no overdubs) back in 2006, primarily for cost reasons. On the other hand, the first 14 songs were recorded late last year with much more of a band feel and are closer to the rock/pop genre. Best of luck on Broadjam. Anthony (The Spermatochords)
Thanks for your very helpful review of "Freedom Bound" That was a 1st run at a new song, and I was really looking for the kind of constructive suggestions you gave!
Hi Paul, just reviewed "Hey Hey Hey"....loved it! Great work and I hope you find great success!
Thank you so much! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. If you'd like to grab it, I've got the album up at paultab.bandcamp.com for $1!
Thanks for inviting me to Broadjam, Kathryn! To borrow a phrase from you, I'm gonna be another brilliant beginner. Cheers!
Hi Laura! Welcome to Broadjam!
Thx, Kathryn. See you Saturday.
Thanks for you kind review of "Brilliant Beginner!" Best to you and I will take a listen to some of your tunes.
Hi Matthew, Thanks so much for your nice review of "Good and Faithful!" I appreciate your comments especially since I just reviewed one of yours and know how talented you are. Cool that you serve as a pastor...I got an inkling of your spiritual nature in "Laughter in the Hallway." Blessings to you.
Kathryn, thanks for the constructive review of my song "Laughter in the Hallway". Reviews like this are quite helpful and keep me from giving up on the review process. I wrote this song as I pondered the lines etched upon a hallway door in our house. I did this as my oldest went off to college...miss those days...David Spires provides the vocals. Thanks again! Matt
I APPRECIATE YOUR REVIEW FOR MY SONG. YOUR THOUGHTS HELPS ME TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE CUSTOMERS LIKE AND DON'T. THANKS
Thanks Jeff....I knew it was you doing the review by you too! My old bandmate Lou Carlozo is a fantastic guitar player and is know for his Byrds style playing (had to have him especially on the "turn, turn, turn" lyric).! I will pass on this compliment to him. :) I will look up Jim Pearson here on BJ. Thank you!
Hello Juice, Thanks SO MUCH for you encouraging and lovely review of "Little Seasons!" I am excited to listen to your Gloria Gaynor tune and the ones you have here on BJ. My guitarist is awesome and I wanted him specifically to play since I have the Byrds-ish bridge and he plays that wonderful jangly 60's guitar! Best to you and thanks again for the thorough review.
Thanks so much for YOUR kind words, Kathryn--you ROCK, girlfriend!! Good luck and Godspeed in your career . . .
Hello, thanks so much for your nice review of "Brilliant Beginner." I appreciate the encouragement. :) Best to you.
Hi Keith--thanks so much for your nice review of my song "Brilliant Beginner." I like the brass too and called on an old college friend to add it to the song. :) Best to you and I will listen to your stuff next.
Hi Kathrvn, you're welcome. I hope that you like my stuff too. All the best for your future.
Thanks, Bob, for your nice review of "Better Place." Thanks for the Judy Collins reference too...I just finished reading her autobiography and had someone else recently compare my voice to hers. I've never heard that before (or heard it myself) and consider it a lovely compliment! I look forward to listening to your tunes!
hi Kathryn, thank you for the thoughtful and pretty right on review of my song "Warm and Dry",,,that's me singing, so hell for a 60 year old, i'll take your words as quite kind... i do hear you on some of the "cliche" words you mentioned, however for a guy that's been accused of not just "saying it", that's exactly what i was going for, so i succeeded, but maybe too much...LOL... your review was spot on, and i NEVER EVER give anybody all 5's, but you got 'em...but i still dig my song...LOL.. love, peace, happiness and thank you for the words! warren hein
Thanks, Warren! Looking forward to hearing more from you...all the best!
Hello Anita, Thanks for your kind review of "Brilliant Beginner." It is a quirky tune and was a bit experiemental. I understood your comment and you make a good point. Best to you!
:)
Hello Tony, Thanks so much for your kind review of "Little Seasons!" I appreciate the comments very much. I will do some listening to your tunes now. Best wishes!
My pleasure Kathryn & I'll make a point of listening to more of your music later. best regards Tony
Hey - Thank you for your review of "Hole in my Heart". Yes, the Bvox arrangement is straight off of an Elvis record. As for the lyrics, it is a true story.....thanks again for the positive comments. Matt
Oh, also liked your song "Fallen Idols" so much I shared it on my FB page.
Great! Thank you! Look forward to hearing more of your stuff!
Hi Kathryn, your song "Little Seasons" is really first class and you deserve all the success that will come your way. best wishes, Tony
Thank you so much! Am listening to "Never Let Her Go" at the moment with my daughter. Beautiful! Have you had any of your tunes placed in movies/TV shows?
I'm delighted that you liked that piece (which was composed this Friday evening). Nothing published yet & I'm posting quite a few of my pieces up for review as I want to see which picees other musicicians such as yourself think might be worth submitting for movies/TVs. Please always free to listen and make comment / criticism. best regards Tony
Hi John, thanks so much for your very kind review of "Brilliant Beginner." After reading your bio and listening to your tunes (esp. "Serenity"....is this for a theater production? Very pretty!) I feel especially honored. I love how "bio like his" sounded like "bile like his." :) Thanks again and look forward to hearing more of your songs.
Oh...BIO! I love the term "brilliant beginner." Is that a phrase or did you just make it up? I checked out "Good and Faithful Servant"--killer chorus, right in that trad white gospel pocket--look forward to checking out the rest when I have a moment. I'm happy you liked "Serenity." It's not a theater song--more of a Grey's Anatomy song--if that's a genre. I'm still fiddling with it.
Hi Marc, thanks so much for your great and helpful review of "Brilliant Beginner." That is the "quirkiest" song on my album so it was a stretch for me but we were pretty happy with it. I agree with your comments about tempo...it does have the tendency to feel draggy. When I get a chance I will listen to your tunes! Again, above and beyond the call of duty on your review. So many reviews on BJ that aren't worth much.
