Ali Lawrence: a brief history

Ali studied as a Jazz pianist/ arranger at the Newcastle College of music from1989 to1992. since that time he has worked extensively as a pianist, tacher, arranger and composer. His influences include Tori Amos, Nina Simone, Bruce Hornsby, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and loads of other stuff too numerous to mention.

For the past ten years Ali has worked in and around the York area, often playing six/ seven Nights a week. In 2000 he won the city's coveted 'Entertainer of the Year' award'. He has worked with local artists (Tony Jakson, Jess Gardham) as well as a few famous ones (Kathryn Williams, Martin Carthy).

At the moment he is concentrating most of his time on the promotion of his original material, writing in styles ranging from funk to classical.

In 2005 He achieved a Broadjam R 'n' B No.1 with his song Cinderella Syndrome. Not bad for a white boy from Medieval England's second City....
