Ultraviolet were formed in 2003 originally consisting of two principle songwriters, David Clogg and Cliff Merralls. Combining an interest in melody and meaningful lyrics, David and Cliff decided to branch out and form a band. Whilst doing so they came across Jamie Selby a drummer and songwriter from Kent. Jamie, sharing an interest in melody and dynamics was impressed with the recordings Cliff and David had produced and was pleased to join. Jamie bought bass player Ben Vallins to the band, who was fresh from touring in America.

Biography

Combining an interest in melody and meaningful lyrics, David and Cliff decided to branch out and form a band. Whilst doing so they came across Jamie Selby a drummer and songwriter from Kent. Jamie, sharing an interest in melody and dynamics was impressed with the recordings Cliff and David had produced and was pleased to join. Jamie bought bass player Ben Vallins to the band, who was fresh from touring in America.

The process has been creative and organic from the start, combining their musical ability and love of melody has brought Ultraviolet to the attention of the record industry very quickly. They have played in top venues including, The London Astoria, The West One Four, The Brixton Telegraph, The Dirty South, The Half Moon, Canterbury Christ Church university and Dublin Castle to name but a few. They headlined the Dartford Festival during the summer of 2004 playing alongside many top named artists. They have also supported Alabama 3 on a number of occasions in the South's Premium venue The Dirty South. On the 22nd April 2006 they launched their debut self funded album "Uncomfortable Silence" at the Dirty South S.E London and sold out to a capacity crowd.
During the summer of 2006 they continued touring promoting the album and supported the Jones Gang, Paul Young and Kym Marsh at the Carew rock festival in Wales. In December 2006 Ultraviolet were signed the C3U records, a newly formed independent record label formed by music industry Guru Steve Meluish. 2007 saw Ultraviolet enjoy more success releasing their single “Colours” through C3U records and continued live dates throughout the year. The single will be available in selected HMV stores from 12th November 2007.
