Thomas Swenson, Musician

Here I am working on my first online project. I have started with a couple pictures of a new guitar, and I am getting the bio together. Here goes.

I live in Buffalo Grove, IL, a northwest Chicago suburb. Currently I play solo acoustic guitar and sing at a local coffee shop in Long Grove, IL, called Beans and Leaves. You will find me there every Saturday, year around. I also play solo at a local restaurant called The Long Grove Cafe. Solo material is a mix of 50's, 60's, and 70's pop and folk rock songs. I also do some original songs as well to keep it interesting. I play a pretty good fingerstyle guitar and I sing well enough to get the job done.

I am also working with a rock band that I have initiated w/ some other local musicians, called ALNICO. We play festival type gigs and play a variety of rock, jazz, and blues music. This project is coming along very nicely with good reviews from our first few gigs. I will be working on a web site for the group on broadjam.com.

I am 57 and have played forever. I started in Wisconsin at age 14 in a rock band called THE CALIENTY'S. We spelled the Mexican word for hot with a Y, because it looked cooler. You had to have been through that era to understand. I moved on to severeal other local bands over the years. in 1989 I moved to Illinois. I played with an acoustic artist, TOM MAC of Rockford, IL for several years. Then moving closer to Chicago, I started to play solo and also worked with a duo called FERRARO AND SWENSON. We played mostly instrumental guitar music, and recorded 2 CD's, called CONTRAST AND CLARITY, and GOING HOME. When this ended I started doing solo work again and had worked on occasion with another guitar or a bass. I have hosted an open mic and song circle at the aforementioned Beans and Leaves coffee shop in Long Grove, and continue with this and the band at this time. I love playing. Music has been with me from the get go. I enjoy it more now than evere before. I have a nice home studio and by trial and error I am learning the new studio technology and media. There is hope for me yet. Thanks for your interest in me and my musical endeavors.

Hey Tom, Jim McKiernan here. You got me started playing back at La Follette (68). You lent me amplifiers and encouraged my interest. Still playing today. Just gigged out playing a Gibson SG bass like the one you played in Calientays. Just wanted to say thanks and I am happy you are still at it. redmckiernan@gmail.com

Hi Thomas - Just listened to "Cat's Tale" and thought it was great. Could easily see that one being used in a movie someday. Hope you keep making more songs.
