Gordon, Ellis & Steel was formed in the 1970's in London and spent a decade writing songs and gigging around the London pub and club circuit, including gigs at Hampstead Town Hall, The Howff and the legendary Marquee Club. They signed a deal with Mushroom Records and recorded an album at Chalk Farm Studios. However, due to financial problems, the record label and studio were forced to close down before the album was finished or released. Over time, the original tapes were lost. In 2017 the band made contact with former Mushroom owner Vic Keary and discovered the original tapes still existed. Cherry Red Records, who had by now acquired the Mushroom back catalogue, released a collection of the songs in 2018 on the album "Looking Forward Thinking Back" which has received many glowing revues and radio plays around the world.

The bands has had several tracks included on compilation albums.

"Don't Wait Till The Morning" was featured on Spaced Out - The Story Of Mushroom Records the first ever compilation to tell the story of Mushroom Records from its roots in the psychedelic era and its evolution across the early 1970's. This double-CD reveals how Mushroom epitomised the excitement and diversity of the progressive era.

Another track, "My Little One" has been included on a triple box set called Across The Great Divide: Getting It Together In The Country. Together with such names as Rod Stewart, The Faces, Traffic, Fairport Convention and Head's, Hands & Feet are cult underground acts, mainstream Sixties pop groups updating their sound, a post-Dylan wave of back-to-the-land singer/songwriters and a clutch of righteously obscure rural rockers whose music failed to find an outlet at the time.
