Lyrics

American Greed, American Creed
Steve Gross and Rusty Newcomer
01/01/2015
(Verse)
I'm Working hard to make some money
To buy those things I don't need.
It's not strange, it just seems funny.
It's not just greed. It's American creed.
I got a new car and a new house.
If she gets old I want a new spouse.
It's not strange and it's not funny.
It's not just greed. It's American creed.
(Chorus)
I spend money that I don't have
To buy those things that I don't need
To impress neighbors that I don't like
American greed is American creed.
(Verse)
I need a 5 G phone. Can't have enough.
A 3 D TV. Gotta have new stuff.
It's more than habit. Sure as hell ain't funny.
It's not just greed. It's American creed.
I lost some money at the table
But I'll make more when I'm able
I'll win the big one in the lottery
It's not my Greed, It's American Creed
(Bridge)
What was once a want is now a need.
Why don't we know when to stop
We're living life at twice the speed
Always have to be on top
Our brothers keeper we can't be

But there will be a time when we're in need
Right now we want all we can get
Someday we will feel the regret
(Verse)
My brand new pool ain't big enough
My neighbors shed has got more stuff
His brand new car cost more than mine
We're both so broke we crossed the line
How much longer can this last
Our credit limits has been surpassed
Well Mr. Jones why can't we see
To get ahead won't set us free
(Chorus)
I spend money that I don't have
To buy those things that I don't need
To impress neighbors that I don't like
American greed is American creed.
(Verse)
Corporations say that they are people
They never meet beneath our steeple
What we call god can't be seen
What they call god is colored green
What's it all about, what's the goal
Will chasing money save my soul
In the end there's things I dread
Nothing matters once we're dead
(Tail)
Why must I try to fit in
When I was born to stand out
We have ambitions that we must feed
And it's more than greed. It's American creed

Has an old school rock sound and vibe, almost punk but still has that early rock feel. I dig this song, very cool makes me want to put on my rock and roll cloths and head out in my 50 chevy. This is very well performed and recorded. Just such a great groove.

Very good sound with some genius lyrics delivering a very pertinent message. Lyrics achieve the difficult task of being both serious and comical. Nice hook, excellent bridge, leading into it, and leaving it. Very cool intro. Really good music.

I like the section change at around 1:50. Good transition. The song has a real 70's rock flavor to it. The guitar overshadows the keys a little bit, might want to adjust the volumes so you can clearly hear all the parts.
