Lyrics

ALLIGATOR
BY RUSTY NEWCOMER AND SCOTT ROBEY

I PRACTICE NIGHT AND DAY
WEAR MY FINGERS TO THE BONE
PAYING THOSE GROULING DUES
STILL WAITING BY THE PHONE
MISSIN' OUT ON SOCIAL LIFE
ALL LOCKED UP IN MY ROOM
DREAMIN' OF THOSE HOT LIGHTS
AND SHOWS THAT END TOO SOON

BUT I'M GONNA MAKE IT SOONER OR LATER
I'M GONNA RECORD ON OLE ALLIGATOR AH HUH

I'M NOBODY NOW
I WILL BE SOMEDAY
AND YOU'LL DRIVE FOR MILES
JUST TO HEAR ME PLAY
BETTER WATCH YOUR WOMAN
CAUSE SHE'LL WANT ME TOO
AND IF I EVER GET HER
SHE'LL BE THROWING ROCKS AT YOU

AND I'M GONNA MAKE IT SOONER OR LATER
I'M GONNA RECORD ON OLE ALLIGATOR AH HUH

THE OLD HOUND DOG AND KO-KO TAYLOR
KNEW THEY WOULD MAKE IT SOONER OR LATER
NONBELIEVERS SHUNNED ELVIN THE BISHOP
BUT THE CLERGY OF BLUES JUST NEVER GAVE UP
ON HIS WAY TO BLUES KINGDOM HE CROSSED GATOR MOAT
WHERE MANY HAVE SUNK BUT HE STAYED AFLOAT
YOU MAY NOT BELIEVE WHAT I'M TRYIN' TO SAY
WELL I DON'T GIVE SHIT CAUSE I'M ON MY WAY
(CHORUS)

Interesting blues-swing groove. The engineering mix of all of the parts was great; all parts working together. The refrain musical progression went in an unexpected, but entertaining direction. I liked the optimism of the lyrics.

Great song, well constructed and preformed. Really nice groove. I dig this song.

I like the vibe, lots of attitude, The singer sounds a bit like George Thourogood. . Fun song

Very cute and well done song. Really cool riff and nice vocal performance. Very good transitions.

Love the groove! Could line dance, jitterbug or swing to this song.

I like the beat and the unique vocals, great sounding drums and horns - takes me back to the sixties!

Boy this seems to be right out of the 50's or seems like what you would here on Bourbin street in New Orleans.
The band sounds pretty tight as well. Horns sound good as well. I believe this was done on tape instead of digital.
"I'm going to record an old alligator"! Ha!
