Lyrics

My Father's Son

He was a young boy from the Mid-West.
The youngest of many, his family was blessed.
They came here from Poland, more than a century ago.
To live on the land of the Winnebago.

I don't know much about his life as a child.
I hardly listened to him; my mind was too wild.
I should have asked him to tell me the tales.
Of his life's story, that's where I failed.

There must have been many times in his life.
When he'd fight to save the truth from the lies
Did he look back in wonder at all he had done?
Was he proud to be known as his Father's Son?

My brother and me, we talk now and then.
I haven't seen him since I don't know when.
I remember the days when we played, and we fought.
When we got married, life split us apart.

I watched him in wonder as his family grew.
Knowing that he and our dad shared more than I knew.
I spend my life searching while his life transcends.
Decades would fly by since we became friends.

There must have been many times in his life.
When he'd fight to save the truth from the lies
Does he look back in wonder at all he has done?
Is he proud to be known as our Father's Son?

It's been a tough day; it's been a rough year.
Sometimes I need to dig deep to beat down the fear.
My life has been crazy, Battles lost battles won.
My father showed me how to live and stay strong.

So many years since our father's gone.
It was a day like today when I wrote him this song.
It seems like a lifetime, and I miss him still.
I try to follow the path he taught me so well.

There are so many times in my life.
When I fight to save the truth from the lies.
I look back in wonder at all I have done.
I'm so proud to be known as My Father's Son
