Story Behind The Song
It was April 1993, and I was stationed at the Philadelphia Navy Ship Yards while my Carrier the USS John F Kennedy CV67 was undergoing upgrades. It gets cold in Philly, it snows in Philly. I was still recovering from a horrific breakup from the person I knew, and perhaps still know, to be the one intended for me. Very emotional time. I was walking from the ship to base housing, when I looked at a patch of ice near a fence line, and beneath it I could see a flower waiting to bloom. This inspired me, because if the flower could be patient and allow time to bloom after a winter's snow and ice, then perhaps, maybe, I could rediscover friendship with the passing of time. I wrote the song as a poem, and I did not convert it to a song until, many years later, perhaps 2001. I added vocals this year, and here we are, Times In My Mind, the way I heard it in my mind, back in 1993.
