Story Behind The Song
This idea comes from at least one actual auction that took place many years ago. I had heard about it as a child and it remained in my mind until it finally came forward to become a song.
Song Description
A farmer is losing his farm at an auction scheduled for today. It breaks his heart to see this long standing family farm and his family's dreams being taken away. The auction begins, but those folks attending refuse to bid and any of the items and they turn away from the auctioneer. Jacob learns that God has been with him all along, but doesn't show his presence until the auction has started. The friends and neighbors congratulate Jacob and pass a hat around to collect some money to help with expenses. Everyone saw God's miracle that day.

Lyrics
When the sun came up this morning it shown down on Jacob's farm.
It found him hitching up his mule and headed out the barn.
He felt the need to turn the soil and smell it one more time.
For it was such a part of him he could not leave behind.
Jacob lived his whole life in service to the Lord.
He had given to his church all that he could afford.
But today he found it very hard to say his morning prayer
and he began to question does Jesus really care.
Chorus:
For a hundred sixty years his family lived off of this land.
The cut the trees, dug the stumps and broke the sod by hand.
It broke his heart to see his family's hopes and dreams decay.
There's going to be an auction on Jacob's farm today.
The auctioneer was calling all the folks to gather round.
They had come from near and far to see the deal go down.
Each one of them a farmer it made them all reflect,
which one of them would be the one to have an auction next.
The auctioneer said what am I bid for this old rocking chair
that Jacob's grandma rocked him in with tender love and care?
Not one hand was raised to bid, they all just turned away.
And so it went with every piece put up for sale that day.
Jacob stood dumbfounded, but soon began to see
that God had not forsaken him just stood by silently.
All the friends with heads bowed low together arm in arm
new they'd seen the hand of God that day on Jacob's farm.
Now Jacob's friends all gathered as the sun was going down.
They shook hands with Jacob and passed the hat around.
Jacob stood with tear dimmed eyes, humbled and reborn
for God performed a miracle that day on Jacob's farm.
Repeat Chorus:
For a hundred sixty years his family lived off of this land
they cut the trees, dug the stumps and cleared the sod by hand,
and it broke his heart to see his family's hopes and dreams decay.
But, there was quite an auction on Jacob's farm today.
Yes, there was quite an auction on Jacob's farm today.
