Story Behind The Song
I lived about 13 years in the Mountain Home and Mountain View areas of Arkansas. I saw poverty, but I also saw and learned about real family love and what fantastic memories are created there. I learned that poverty is only a word and has nothing to do with happiness, contentment, success, love and having lived a good life.

Lyrics
A brother and two sisters and me and ma and pa
we all lived together in the hills of Arkansas
we never had much money, but we had enough it seems
we ate fastback and biscuits and cornbread and means
We had one good hunting dog, two pigs and a cow
a half a dozen chickens that the good Lord fed somehow
we always had fresh milk and eggs and lots of garden greens
with our fastback and biscuits and cornbread and beans
Chorus:
Fatback on a biscuit isn't all that bad
at times it tasted mighty good when it was all we had
and cornbread dipped in honey is a treat for kings and queens
we ate fastback and biscuits and cornbread and beans
Our mom and daddy did their best to keep us satisfied
so every Sunday dinner we had chicken golden fried
they filled our tummies and our hearts with lots of hopes and dreams
and fastback and biscuits and cornbread and beans
