Story Behind The Song
This was a 'stream of consciousness' lyric and was mostly written in the time it took to get it on paper. It was just an idea that leapt out of nowhere and I've done a little tinkering with it since the original 'mad moment'. I think it's going to be a Country song but until now, I haven't come up with the music to equal the lyric.
Song Description
A guy of no consequence is standing waiting for love, when a beautiful girl passes by and then runs towards him. He thinks 'this is it' but she just takes a light from his cigarette butt, smiles and runs on.
She arrives at the club she works in and runs off to work, leaving her cigarette burning on a shelf, which catches fire. We're now in the dark alley behind the club, where a pregnant street girl is sitting and she sees the fire in the sky. Emergency exit doors open and people escape, terrified and knock the pregnant girl over. She dies and when an ambulance arrives, they deliver her baby and, noticing her looking at the fire, they call her Flame.

Lyrics
Flame
ThereÂ's an empty eyed loser Â- and he stands alone in the Mall
Hoping someone will notice Â- but no one sees him at all
So he lights up a cigarette Â- to make him look so cool
But still no one sees him Â- he feels just like a fool
But just then, a young girl Â- she comes running by
Loser looks at her beauty Â- and he knows that he should try
She runs straight towards him Â- and takes out a cigarette pack
He really thinks that heÂ's made it Â- ThereÂ's no looking back
She places a cigarette Â- between her ripe red lips
And then brings together Â- their cigarette tips
With a smile and a touch of his face Â- sheÂ's suddenly gone
Loser has lost again Â- HeÂ's left all alone
Instrumental
The young girl is running Â- towards the club
And in her hand Â- burns the cigarette stub
At the door, she is greeted Â- by the managerÂ's smile
Then she runs to the staff-room Â- to freshen up her style
She places her cigarette Â- on the edge of a shelf
And then starts to concentrate Â- on painting herself
Now I know what youÂ're thinking Â- and yes, she does forget
And runs from the staff-room Â- leaving her cigarette
Which is warming the shelf Â- and making it glow
N'soon thereÂ's a small flame Â- and itÂ's starting to grow
The flame burns a wall plug Â- and shorts out a wire
Now weÂ've got the beginnings Â- of a nice little fire
Instrumental
ThereÂ's another young woman Â- and she sits on a ramp
At the back of the Mall Â- and she looks like a tramp
Her face is all dirty Â- and her eyes are all wild
She looks cold and lonely Â- and sheÂ's heavy with child
Then she hears a loud crackling Â- and sees a bright glow
And sheÂ's sitting there frightened Â- in the dark street below
Now doors burst wide open Â- The airÂ's filled with sound
The woman starts running Â- but sheÂ's knocked to the ground
Short Instrumental
The smoke blackened faces Â- their eyes filled with dread
They trample the woman Â- and leave her there, dead
SheÂ's found by the medics Â- who treat her with care
Her waters have broken Â- and the baby is there
The baby is looking Â- toward the fire light
Her hands they are waving Â- Her smile is so bright
The medics are searching Â- to find her a name
Then they see where sheÂ's looking Â- and they call the child Â'FlameÂ'.
