Story Behind The Song
Wrote this in a very small apartment, when in graduate school, on Claremont Avenue, down the street from where Alger Hiss lived and F.Scott Fitzgerald, before that. The song is about betrayal, anger, suspicion and the sense that the love he's involved in is a bit of a fraud. It treats a social climbing girl friend in the arts who would rather hang out with b level celebrities than be in authentic relationship.
Song Description
This song depicts a social climbing girlfriend who calls on the telephone when her lover isn't around just so she can put in a polite appearance. She goes on business trips to L.A.; pretends to be in lover with her NY boyfriend but is actually playing a complicated game of telephone tag that leaves him guessing as to her true feelings.

Lyrics
Robin Hood
You keep me on the telephone, hang it up you tell me what you think
Don't be alarmed if you call and I'm not here till next week
You call me in the meantime, kind of in between time, when your man goes out of town
A robin hood of free love giving it to me love was something that you did real fine
Tell me who you're thinking of
Don't tell me your not in love
You call me when I'm downtown, when I'm not around town
What's that game you want to play?
Talking to the rich folks, leaving all the poor folks,
wondering why you came their way
You think I'm nothing special
Sending bows and arrows
Through my heart most every day
You're not welcome either
getting any wiser
Why don't you just go the way you came
