Story Behind The Song
This song concerns a crush I had in the 1990s on a mysterious journalism student, with long black hair. One magical flirty date and then nothing, but alot was left to the imagination. Oh yeah. And she knocked on my door one night, just to see who I had invited in, and asked to borrow a hair brush. Lame excuse, but charming nevertheless.
Song Description
This song is about a person who meets a person on an elevator again and again (she's a journalism student in NY) and finally they get together. The usual nervousness ensues and they dance briefly, zanily, and plan a life together. They long to break out of the separation of the apartment but find they can't give up their independence.

Lyrics
Girl Up Above Me
I fell in love with the girl up above me
She didn't know me, but I didn't mind
Looking for laughter I found it all after
We went out for coffee, and had a good time
But when I got there I had nothing to say
And she just stared at the floor
She said you're here now baby why don't you stay
I said I'd like nothing more
I fell in love with the girl up above me, yeah
I asked her to dance and she gave me a chance she said I wouldn't mind if you moved up a flight
I wouldn't either I said just to please her
And wouldn't it be easier spending the night
But when I got there I had nothing to say
And she just stared at the floor
She said you're here now baby why don't you stay
I said I'd like nothing more
I fell in love with the girl up above me, yeah
