Story Behind The Song
Beautiful girl from Pittsburgh I fell in love with at Bryn Mawr College, when she was working in the cafeteria. Had megawatt blue eyes like billboard signs.
Song Description
I grew up on Long Island and I think the sound of this song, which I wrote when I was 19 in college (1982) reflects the Billy Joel feel, Blondie, Cars. I used to play at Rumpelstillskins in Port Washington NY. Highpoint of my life really, sad to say. Always hoped she'd hear me do this song, which she never did. Sad summer. Many love letters and then it all fizzled when I went to England for a year. Now she's married to someone else. A bald dude.

Lyrics
I thought your love would be an open book
But you were like a billboard sign
I took no chances on the time I took
You know that I could always read your mind
I have not lost, you have not gained
There is nobody in this world that we can blame.
Sometimes I think my love is loneliness
I've got to get it just to give it away
And other times I say oh no babe you know that's just not the way.
