When Your Wife Travels To Italy

Story Behind The Song

A few years ago my wife traveled to Italy with her mother. It was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. I was invited, but work necessitated that I remain stateside. Although I received regular updates via phone and email, the proverb, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder," definitely applied. This tune developed during this time and seemed to express sadness and poignancy more so than wistfulness. I hear it now as the dialogue between two people far apart, perhaps just as much in space as in feeling, depending on the listener's perspective. This is a result, in large part, of Jess Townsend's impassioned performance on violin. Alex Somov's accordion presents a counterpoint or response to the guitar. A lovely reunion ensued upon my wife's return.

Song Description

"When Your Wife Travels To Italy," is a romantic, intimate, acoustic guitar melody that weaves a musical narrative around a couple separated by geographical boundaries, with the wife embarking on a journey to Italy evoking the theme that absence makes the heart grow fonder. A beautiful and richly played violin and a seductive accordion enhance the sense of longing and yearning in this track. "When Your Wife Travels To Italy" invites the listener to eavesdrop on an intimate conversation between two souls struggling with physical and emotional distance.
