Two of Hearts

Story Behind The Song

Two of hearts is the last song on the „Alice is in Love with the Mad Hatter" EP. It draws it's inspiration from the queen of hearts and her army of cards - the dark side of Wonderland. But instead of focusing on the queens cruelty I focused on the pain she feels. Her heart was broken and she became who she is because of that. Two of hearts tells the story of a young and naive character that put all her heart in a love that ended, a love that left. She believed in that love, but it deceived her. Behind every person is a story. We become who we are by meeting other people, following our own path, failing and getting up again.

Song Description

Two of hearts tells the story of a young and naive character that put all her heart in a love that ended, a love that left. The chorus has a happy feeling since it recalls falling in love, putting all her faith in a love that felt free and beautiful. The verses are sung from a perspective of heartbreak, the love she believed in left her "Bet all my money in a game of cards, lost all my money for a two of Hearts" - that line says it all, she believed and she was disappointed. It's a singer songwriter song, where female vocals and acoustic guitars lead the way - with a full band arrangement towards the end, including drums, bass and keyboards. It's a musically light song with heaviness and sadness in the lyrics.

Lyrics

Bet all my money in a game of cards
Lost all my money for a two of hearts
No one told me I would loose
No one told me I would loose

Bet all my money on the slowest horse
Luck and I got divorced
No one told me I would loose
No one told me I would loose

Then you came, with your smile
You said, why don't we hang out for a while
You said please, just for me
Tell me while I look into your eyes

This was the only flame that burned tonight
Would you follow me into the light?
And if all the stars had lost their shine
would you still believe in mine?

Even if I paint the roses red
They will still remain dead
No one said my heart would break
No one said it's a mistake

I said that I'd believe in your light
If it can guide me through the night
No one said it's a mistake
No one said my heart would break

I believed, in the night
Didn't know that the stars always die
You received, all I had
I woke up, empty heart, empty head

This was the only flame that burned tonight
Would you follow me into the light?
And if all the stars had lost their shine
Would you still believe in mine?
