Story Behind The Song
It started out as a sad song I needed to write because I was feeling low. But I quickly realised I really needed to write about home. It's so easy to get caught up in our own heads, to only see the negativ sides in life. But in reality most of the times things are getting better. Sometimes all we have to do is to look for the things that make us happy.
After finishing the writing process I played it to my parents and my mum immediately declared A Ray Of Light to her favourite song of mine. She actually started immediately singing along in the second chorus. You can hear her voice in the final recording, alongside my wonderful dad's guitars. The bass and drums where recorded in a session with Wolf Simon and Ben Simon last November - my Dad and I recorded most of the EP's demos with them and we kept going from there. The final addition to ,A Ray of Light' was the string arrangement by the brilliant Bruce White.
And now that the song is out I can listen to it knowing that we created a beautiful piece of music together. It grew from a song that helped me to a song that will hopefully bring hope to many more people. Because the sun will always rise and there's a ray of light at every horizon.
Song Description
A Ray of Light is a hopeful and emotional song that starts of with a sad and lonely feeling centered around female vocals, acoustic guitar and stings throughout the second verse other instruments enter the picture (drums and bass) and in the chorus the songs mood shifts completely into a hopeful and uplifting feeling. The song keeps building up with the piano and gets to an emotional climax in the final double chorus. The core message of the song is that no matter how bad things might seem, there's always hope.

Lyrics
Sitting in the dark
Beyond repair
Time left it's mark
No flowers in your hair
Blind eyes
That forgot to see the light
The sun tries
But never gets it right
Ain't no shadows in the dark
Ain't no love in your heart
Emptiness
Your soul is hiding
Loneliness
No silver-lining
Black and black
Keep on colliding
Bring it back
You think you're dying
But there is a ray of light at every horizon
Somewhere deep inside the sun is rising
No you aren't blind the light's just hiding
There's a ray of light at every horizon.
When it's dark
Won't you let your hopes die
Dogs bark
With the morning light
You'll fly
Like my blue kite
Everything dies so does the night
But there is a ray of light at every horizon
Somewhere deep inside the sun is rising
No you aren't blind the light's just hiding
There's a ray of light at every horizon
There's a ray of light...
There is a ray of light at every horizon
Still.
