Billy Onion

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this song about Pat Tillman. I used the name Billy onion for two reasons - Pat was such a fellow, that he could make any woman swoon; make his mother's eye's well up with pride. He's the type of guy that every other guy wanted to be. I also named it Billy Onion, as an homage to all those other Pat Tillman's, that have given their lives for something, more then themselves. If you can say one thing about Pat and men like him, is that they are selfless; Pat, just more so, because he had more to give up; wealth, fame, comfort. The question that the song really asks of Pat and those like him, is was it worth it? Was he or any of those other brave men, truly serving a "noble" cause. When I found out that the "GREAT" Pat Tillman had died, I was truly saddened. However, when I found out how the military, how the "noble" cause had lied about his death, not only to the nation, but to his family directly and how they still lie about exactly how he died, I was moved to write about it. This song is for every loving son, of every loving mother, who ever gave their beloved child up for people and a cause, who do nothing but lie to them all day; treat them as if they are nothing but disposable; served its purpose, now discard it.

Lyrics

Billy Onion

Billy Onion was ten years old
When he realized he could make young girls cry
(Such a cute kid, such a cute kid)

Billy Onion was seventeen
When he raised a rifle to his eye for the very first time
(Such a miscue, such a miscue)

Billy
I think we're out of sink in this regard
What would you have us do now that you've taken is this far
And Billy
They're going to name a camp after you
Deck it out in red, white and blue hang a photograph of you.

Could'a, should'a, would'a been there for ya

Billy Onion was a patriotic boy
Couldn't wait to sign up, go and fight go and die
(Such a mistake, such a mistake)

Billy
I think we're out of sink in this regard
What would you have us do now that you've taken is this far
And Billy
They're going to name a camp after you
Deck it out in red, white and blue hang a photograph of you

..Been there for ya
Could'a, should'a, would'a, tried a little harder
Could'a, should'a, would'a, been there for ya
Could'a, should'a, would'a, tried a little harder

Tried a little harder, tried a little harder, tried a little harder
1...2...3...Pat.
