Horine

Story Behind The Song

Lots of country people have good educations and they like to have fun. Many of them don't go to bars or drink...so Worley and I decided to write a song about the people in our families and how they enjoy themselves. This is a great song.

Song Description

Each of us has a place that we think of as home. And we also have memories of having fun and growing up in less stressful times. It sometimes seems attractive to try to go back to those days, those times, and those places...that's what "Horine" is about.

Song Length 3:10 Genre Country - Rockabilly

Lyrics

Horine by Glenn Warren and Worley Max McKinney

The railroad crossing don't need no warning light...
'Cause the train roars through at the same time every night;
Us local yokels might talk real slow...
But we'er all smart enough to know...
You don't cross the tracks when the whistle blows in...Horine.

The mornin' paper don't come 'til afternoon;
But that's okay...it only brings bad news;
We'd rather watch our T.V. sets;
And and Barney are our favorites yet;
A stranger's a friend you ain't met yet in...Horine.

Chorus: Goin' back to Horine...Horine...
1. Had to leave my baby behind;
She'll be waitin' at the unincorporated sign;
I hate this city and I hate this smog;
I want to lay back lazy as a bump on a log;
You don't even have to chain your dog in...Horine.

The folks back there know what "the good life" means;
You can raise your own maters and taters and turnip greens;
The general store always welcomes you back...
It's owned and operated by Grandma Mack...
She'll give you credit if you're short on jack in...Horine.

There ain't no honky tonk or picture show;
But the married folks don't need no place to go;
In an hour or two, when the sun goes down...
The lights go out all over town;
The birthrate sure ain't going down in...Horine.

Chorus: Goin' back to Horine...Horine...
2. The barbershp is a local shrine..
If you're in a hurry, you can cut in line;
You can throw a party...bring a big ole crowd...
Feel real good without gettin' plowed...
The law won't get you if you ain't too loud in...Horine.

Chorus: Goin' back to Horine...Horine...
1. Had to leave my baby behind;
She'll be waitin' at the unincorporated sign;
I hate this city and I hate this smog;
I want to lay back lazy as a bump on a log;
You don't even have to chain your dog in...Horine.
