Story Behind The Song
Rising Sun was inspired by my stepdaughter?s poem about her husband and what he means to her. As this piece unfolded, I inevitably thought about what she means to me. While my marriage to her father has brought us together as relatives, she is the sister I never had. She?s the kind of friend who livens up any room she enters and can brighten my day with a phone call. She?s the kind of vivacious woman who has an unquenchable passion for life and will try anything new. She?s the kind of mother who showers love, laughter and compassion on all those lucky enough to have her in their circle. Lisa is my friend, she makes me laugh and I love her.
Song Description
Just as the Sun peaks on the early-morning horizon, this composition conjures up images of the Rising Sun getting brighter and brighter with each passing moment. It is simple in structure, allowing for an ever-increasing lovely interplay with harp, strings, and French horns playing question and answer with each other throughout the piece. The completion of the piece is marked quite appropriately with the ringing of the tam tam lasting beyond the other instruments, marking the beginning of a new day.
