Story Behind The Song
Many people throw a fit at the drop of a hat. We've all seen it. Human triggers are everywhere. It appears, based upon my travels abroad, that an uncontrollable temper can be genetically hard-wired. Other times, drug, sex, or alcohol abuse generate emotional instabilities and folks flip out at the least little provocation. Failed relationships are famous for causing flameouts and unbridled rage. We hear of countless incidents where PTSD caused some poor vet to go berserk. It's such a shame. I would do anything, even going so far as to write a song, if it helped one person to realize they had a problem. Maybe, then, they would take the necessary steps needed to overcome their afflictions. Actually, I think this song helped me considerably.
Song Description
Seated comfortably at Workstation Eldorado, I started noodling around with a slow cajun figure on my 12 string. Much tinkering later, it took on some semblance of a country song. My wife preferred a slower finger-style version, but I found this cut, stylistically, to be more fluid and free-flowing. As for the song's topic, my ship's usually on a pretty even keel, but there was a time when I wasn't so unflappable. The reclusive life I have led kept my occasionally volatile nature hidden from the public eye. Gratefully, only vestiges of the old angry Eldorado remain. Since this is a self-critique, I'm happy to report that either I have grown more mature or else i'm just aging gracefully

Lyrics
Don't carry your pain to your loved ones.
I know you've been hurting a while.
Before long, you get lost in that old feeling,
And we won't know that it's you after a while.
I know you feel anger, it's no stranger.
At times, I don't recognize myself.
If you think sensibly, the one you'd like to be
Will remember all the things that made you smile.
This soldier's still at war in some poor country.
Maybe soon, he'll come back home from the siege.
Every night he dreams of things you don't mention
It's a lot to bear this battle fatigue.
I know he feels anger, it's no stranger
At times, I don't recognize myself.
You gotta be peaceful with the people
Even though you've got those awful memories.
You can drown an aching heart inside a bottle.
For a short time, she's a friend who makes you smile
When the laughter's gone, you're left feeling more empty
On a dead end road that runs a lonely mile
So you'd better get sober, a dark cloud's over,
And raining down the blues, it's plain to see
I've seen how mean you get, when your nose is wet
Better take the highway home soberly
Everybody's known their share of disappointments.
This old life can take you for a bumpy ride
But don't take your discontentment out on others.
When that demon shows his face, we run and hide.
I know you feel anger, it's no stranger.
At times, I don't recognize myself.
You gotta be peaceful with the people
And if you can't, you'd better get some help.
And if you can't, you'd better get some help.
