Story Behind The Song
We are sure there must be other songs about this but W just fancied writing one form the mundane perspective for such an extra ordinary piece of art. Artist is engaged by the husband, husband doesn't really know what he wants - just a good portrait, wife is potentially bored but turns up in a nice looking dress, Leo lays on some jugglers to stop her getting bored, says what he is going to do with the colours, the background, the painting surface etc. Upon completion of the first sitting, he tells her not to hold her breath for completion but to come back and have a chat in a few years. W did a good arrangement with strings, woodwind and the girls came up trumps ( again ) with a cracking backing vocal.

Lyrics
THE WAY I PAINT YOUR SMILE ( W L COTTERELL 2013 )
Please come in and sit down, we're ready and waiting for you
He didn't say much - just give me the best you can do.
I just want a portrait, a memory of a moment in time,
So let's give him something that's truly, sublime
I'll pick up my brushes and mix up the paints here for you
Try to resolve all the colours and reflect what is true.
I've brought in some jugglers to keep boredom away from your mind
I hope in the end perfection is something together we'll find.
I hope you don't mind but I want to paint something daring in style
But the key to success Is the way that I paint your smile
I'm painting on poplar, I find it works for me
An Imaginary landscape behind you is what I can see.
The dark green and black of the silks in your dress are just fine
The light and the shade that I give you will make your face shine.
I hope you don't mind but I want to paint something daring in style
But the key to success Is the way that I paint your smile
What will they say in the future, when they see your face
Will they believe that your beauty is not out of place ?
Where will you image be hanging long after we're gone
Will their be those who would sing of you in a song ?
So thank you for sitting, the picture is almost done
But I have a reputation for not finishing one
Come back in a few years, and see the things I can see
And you will always be the lovely Lisa to me
