Story Behind The Song
Growing up one likes to have their own identity. In my hometown I was always identified as Harvey's boy. Once I was old enough to leave home, my father came to visit & everyone there identified him as Donny's dad. Written for my father, this song is about that transition & becoming one's own person.

Lyrics
Harvey's Boy
At a family reunion in a park when I was eight
Picnic tables full of folks whom I could not relate
We drove two days to get there & catch up on the years
They mussed my hair & kissed my cheek & whispered in my ears
You look just like your daddy except a smaller size
They smothered me with hugs & tears but I just rolled my eyes
Daddy's face was beaming but I felt so annoyed
Hearing near a thousand times "you must be Harvey's boy"
I remember back in High School I was small but I was tough
But there were times a bloody nose proved tough - was not enough
Had a fight behind the schoolyard that still rumbles in my head
The reason I've forgot but not the words my father said
You act just like your old man you got his stubborn streak
Throw in your red-hair temper & you paddle up a creek
Took years to earn the wisdom that I share but you avoid
You may think you are a man but you're still just Harvey's boy
BRIDGE God I hated him for what he said that night
God my blood boiled cause we both knew he was right
Many years ago I left home but I try to stay in touch
Seems we only get together now for these funerals & such
Now I'm back here in our old church where old friends & family pray
These strange familiar faces make me smile when they say
You're so much like your father in what you say & do
So many times we heard him say how proud he was of you
took years to understand it but now I can enjoy
to wear this badge of honor being known as Harvey's boy
Pleased to meet you - I'm Harvey's boy
