Lyrics

THERE'S NO GLORY (c) DENNIS MAKEPEACE
They load their guns in silence, arm themselves for war,
Dress up as soldiers with nothing to fight for,
Their countrymen around them live in fear, doubt and hate
They're looking for a reason, playing games with fate
Fighting an uncertain cause to even up the score,
They surrender to the madness, changing to the core,
From men into maniacs, for innocents to fear, chorus
If the battlefields a playground there's no glory
If the battlefield's a playground there's no glory killing here.

So madmen walk among us, fighting in religions' name
Shooting up the innocents and passing on the blame,
Killing all our children, and calling it a war,
Was violence and mindlessness what jesus suffered for?
And this war of hate is raging as the years go rolling by,
From the past we learn no lessons still the innocent must die,
Do the people that you call your own live in deathly fear?
chorus
If the battlefields' a playground there's no glory If the battlefields' a playground there's no glory killing here

If we catch these men turned monsters do we hang them from up high?
Do we make them cry and suffer, before we let them die? Or do we send them to a doctor ,to cure their raging minds
Then free them when they're better, would that be cruel or kind?
Do the children never grown up cry forgotten tears?
Can we number all the victims, over all the years?
Do the people that you call your own live in deathly fear?
chorus If the battlefields' a playground there's no glory,
If the battlefields 'a playground there's no glory killing here
There's no glory
If the battlefields' a playground there's no glory killing here.

THERE'S NO GLORY (VERSION TWO )
They load their guns, arm their tanks, march on off to war,
An army of soldiers with nothing to fight for,
Their countrymen around them live in fear, doubt and hate
They're looking for a reason, playing games with fate
Fighting an uncertain cause to even up the score,
They surrender to the madness, changing to the core,
From men into maniacs, for innocents to fear, chorus
If the battlefields a playground there's no glory
If the battlefield's a playground there's no glory killing here. there's no glory

So madmen walk among us, fighting in religions' name
Shooting up the innocents and passing on the blame,
Killing all our children, and calling it a war,
Was violence and mindlessness what jesus suffered for?
And this war of hate is raging as the years go rolling by,
From the past we learn no lessons still the innocent must die,
Do the people that you call your own live in deathly fear?
chorus
If the battlefields 'a playground there's no glory If the battlefields' a playground there's no glory killing here there's no glory

If we catch these men turned monsters do we hang them from up high?
Do we make them cry and suffer, before we let them die? Or do we send them to a doctor ,to cure their raging minds

Do the people that you call your own live in deathly fear?
chorus If the battlefields' a playground there's no glory,
If the battlefields' a playground there's no glory killing here
There's no glory
If the battlefields' a playground there's no glory killing here.
There's no glory

The instrumentation sounds great.
The quality of the lyrics is good.

Shades of Bob Dylan ! Great lyrics that get the message over loud and clear .

Nice sound on the guitar and well played. Music has a light feel while the lyrics a bit dark in keeping with the theme of the song. Singer has a pleasing voice.

This poet/songwriter strongly reminds me of Simon and Garfunkel and maybe Bob Dylan. The lyrics are well-crafted, hard-hitting and thought-provoking. This song asks more questions than it answers. There's something deep and awesome about it. It touches the heart of the listener, as these are thoughts that mill around inside of us as we ponder the sad state of the world we live in with all its crazy conflicts.

Love this lyric: So madmen walk among us, fighting in religions' name shooting up the innocents and passing on the blame, killing all our children, and calling it a war, was violence and mindlessness what Jesus suffered for?

The politicians are always passing the blame...this is so true. Can we number all the victims? Not a chance.

This is a great song. Extremely talented writer. Nice intro, great guitar and vocal. But the message/content is what really makes this song shine.

Great subject and a nice voice... I get it

First off, I must say that your voice and music style reminds me a lot of Billy Joel. I LOVE Billy Joel, so I was pretty happy when this song began. This song felt like a bit of a blast to the past, but there is never anything wrong with that. The market potential is pretty good in my opinion. It won't ever be in the top 100 songs or anything, but it has some potential for a sync of some sort.

Very nice guitar work and interesting chording.
Good story line.
Nice voice.

Most of the lyric strikes me as beautifully strong and poignant. You had my attention from the first line. My initial concept of the 'playground' was all the places we go to relax and that fit the dressing up and playing soldier image of the first verse. But when you went to children never grown up, the image got muddled so I though maybe you were referencing only school shootings. But in either case, the individual verses are strong. More clarity could make them tie together with less confusing of the meaning.

Exceptionally well done in all respects. Great lyrics, extraordinary melody and vocal delivery. Definitely would enjoy hearing more from this seriously gifted artist at work.

Wonderful voice, pithy lyrics. I am in full agreement with the sentiment. War makes nice young boys murderers, it should not go on happening.

SIMPLY A TOUCHING SONG--thank you--really nice feeling and flow to this song!--NJ.

Enjoyed this folk song. Nice guitar arrangement, and a natural, honest and expressive-sounding vocal. The meaningful lyrics are sung very clearly. It's a pity that we don't hear more songs like this in the mainstream market today. Keep up the good work.

Sounds really pleasant.
The guitar playing is playful and cool.
Overall length and flow of the tune is right.

Nice acoustic guitar performance. Good melody. Good hook. Nice song.
