Story Behind The Song
Personal experience.
Song Description
A man finds himself in the uncomfortable position of finding a new love during a separation from his estranged wife. This woman seems like she could really be "The One" but he has to decide if he is going to take up with her or leave her there and go back to his wife as she is coming home today.
He is also grappling with the fact that if he leaves this new woman and things don't work out with his returning wife, he may never find this new woman again thus losing out on possibly finding a true love.
As he plays through all the scenarios that will never be with this new one he comes to the solid conclusion that it will never be as his wife is coming home.

Lyrics
She spoke to me as if she knew I needed some one to hold
I guess she saw the emptiness, my heart was feeling cold
She seemed to me to be the one with whom I could stay
Now I leave her there because you said you're coming home today
We never shared the ecstasy that you and I once knew
I've never held her in my arms the way that I've held you
Now I may never know what might have been to have her in my world
If it don't work out for you and me, I may never find that girl
I'm gonna leave the other woman
The one I never knew
I'll never know what could have been
Because I'm going back to you
Her hands are soft and warm
Though she works them to the bone
She'll never hold me in her arms
Because you're coming home
A man needs to feel his woman is right there by his side
His home should be a haven, not a place to go and cry
A home is more than just a house and just a place to live
But with the past so close behind us, it takes time to forgive
For every man there stands a woman waiting too be found
Every woman's man is somewhere out there running a round
The one you're with you love but they may not have been "the one"
Give me one more reason baby, and baby I'll be gone
I'm gonna leave the other woman
The one I never knew
I'll never know what could have been
Because I'm going back to you
Her hands are soft and warm
Though she works them to the bone
She'll never hold me in her arms
Because you're coming home
She'll never keep me warm at night
We'll never hold each other tight
We'll never share the way we feel
I'll never calm her trembling fear
We'll never get to be alone
We'll never get to be alone
Because you're coming
Home!
